RAUF DINNER 2012
Alhamdulillah! Friday 22 June 2012 marked the 14 th annual RAUF Dinner, and as usual with the blessings of our Creator it was a phenomenal success. The programme was short, intense and sometimes even shocking. Brother Rafiq Hassen was our honourable Chairman who opened the function, followed with a Qiraath by one of the recovered patients of RAUF, Hafiz Ridwaan. This was followed by a short inspiring talk by one of our leading Alims, Moulana Faheem Khan. Thereafter Brother Ibrahim Dawood took up the podium and delivered a heart wrenching talk on the progress at RAUF. The programme was concluded with an auction conducted by Br. Masoud Ahmed of Islam Alive. All said this year’s function was a complete success in terms of showcasing the role that RAUF plays in recreating the hearts and minds of those that have fallen off the tracks of life.
One must realize that substance abuse is not restricted to any particular income group or Community, this is a universal problem and it raises its ugly head from the most affluent of families to the poorest of poor. With the rate at which the drug problem is spiraling, nearly every family will experience the firsthand affects of what it is to live with a substance abuser, said Br. Ibrahim. He also added that the community needs to get actively involved in trying to combat this problem and ridding the scourge of drugs that is driving our youth into becoming addicts of any substance, emphasizing that family support is the key ingredient to almost all victories.
